Copy That: Master Copy with Garrett
In-Person Workshop | Available
Master copies are one of the best ways to get better at oil painting, regardless of specific focus (still life, landscape, portrait etc…) In the 19th century - Head studies were traditionally selected as a suitable subject for this assignment. The complexities of: proportion, likeness, and variation of skin tone - provide an ideal set of challenges to improve one’s skill set. Aside from the specific demands of portraiture there are also textural differences such as : Hair, skin, clothing, and environment. This exploration of textural differences in paint are adaptable to landscape or still life paintings as well.
Over this 5 day Workshop participants will recreate a Bouguereau head study using the academic stages of : Dead Coloring, First Painting, Second Painting, and retouching.
This class does not have any prerequisites and painters of all experience levels are invited to participate.
