Bouguereau Master Copy- Part 2- The Art Of The Color Study Duration: 7.5 Hours

Step into the preparatory world of Bouguereau's studio with this immersive tutorial conducted in oil. This course explores the essential role of the color study which is a small, painting study that Bouguereau and his students created as a critical preparatory step before working on large-scale paintings. Far from a mere sketch, these color studies served as a visual roadmap, allowing the artist to resolve color relationships, atmospheric effects, and the overall hue, value and chroma harmony of the final work in a manageable format. This is part 2 of a 10 part series where we will continue our deep dive into copying Bouguereau's painting Le Crépuscule.

The Color Study: Planning for the Masterwork- Discover how Bouguereau used small oil studies to work out the complex color orchestration of his large-scale paintings. We will examine the purpose and execution of these preparatory works, learning how to make meaningful color decisions on a small scale before committing them to a final canvas. Through careful observation, we will create our own color study of Le Crépuscule, following the same thoughtful process Bouguereau employed.

This is not the painting that we will be copying but this illustration shows an example of his color studies.
