Join us for an immersive and intense 4 day workshop dedicated to the Magic of Indirect Oil Painting (painting in layers). Whether you are new to oil painting and feel overwhelmed, or looking for more control, refinement or special effects in your work and are looking to get more out of your current oil painting practice, this workshop will be a game changer! Julie spent much of her early years self-taught so she knows the struggles that many encounter, especially with oil paint. If you've ever taken a workshop with her, you know how fun and informative these 4 days will be.

Students will choose from a variety of image references (still life or portrait) during checkout. We will work from the flat in order to focus on the painting process as a whole. All levels are welcomed and encouraged.

Day 1: Introductions and Lecture/presentation about indirect painting and discuss the game plan. Instructor demo for Layer 1. Students work for the remainder of the day on the first layer.

Day 2: The Color study (lecture and demo) - using paint in a deliberate way, working in relationships, and the power of opacity. Students will create a color study of their chosen reference.

Day 3: Layer 2 Demo and painting

Day 4: Layer 3 Demo and painting

Side note: If you have experience with oil paints, and you have a personal image you would like to work from, please notify Julie well in advance to get the image approves and you will have to bring your personal print out with you at the size required.
