Sketchy Business - The Art of the Sketch
In-Person Workshop | Available
You must have heard on multiple occasions that in order to grow as an artist you should sketch as much as possible. Preferably every day. And you might have tried it, but it did not become a regular practice or just did not feel satisfying. Either you lacked time or self-discipline, or your sketches simply did not look Instagram-worthy.
In this 1-day express workshop we shall discuss these stumbling blocks, how to resolve them and make your sketching practice mindful, efficient, and enjoyable. There will be a lot of quick exercises and 1-2 longer drawings. Feel free to bring your own reference or use the ones provided by instructor.
Supplies:
- drawing pad or sketchbook or any cheap drawing/sketching paper (NOT newsprint);
- pencil (mechanical pencils are ok);
- kneaded eraser and white eraser;
- pencil sharpener/knife, 180 grit sanding paper (you will not need these things if you are using a mechanical pencil)
Lyasya Sinkovski
Lyasya Sinkovski is a Boston-based artist and art instructor. She was born and raised in Moscow, Russia. Despite having drawn most of her life, Lyasya received a degree in Linguistics, summa cum laude, and made a successful career in marketing before switching to art. Lyasya was inspired by and studied Russian academic drawing techniques, but had no formal training. She has always strongly believed that drawing is a foundation of any skill-based art. In 2019 Lyasya received a scholarship at Academy of Realist Art, Boston. Since then, she completed the drawing part of the program and is now studying painting.
Loyal to her first love, drawing, Lyasya teaches Bargue/cast at ARA Boston, while giving private and small group art classes at her home studio in Roslindale and working on her personal projects, mostly portraits. Lyasya’s drawings has won several awards and have been exhibited in Boston City Hall.
