Introduction to Printmaking

Join us for an exploration of multiple types of printmaking in this 4 week course! In week one, we will learn about Color theory + Relief Printing with Styrofoam. You will draw and press lines into foam printing plates, then roll ink over the surface to reveal your images in print. Experiment with line, positive and negative space, and repeated designs! In week 2, you will learn how to make Collagraphs and Adhesive Foam Prints. You will build printing plates by layering cardboard and also adhesive foam shapes. Explore how raised surfaces, textures, and patterns transfer to paper, then create a series of prints from your designs. In week 3, you will learn how to make Gelli Plate Monotypes and create unique prints using Gelli printing plates, acrylic paint, and found textures. Explore color theory, layering, and ghost prints. In week 4, you will learn how to do Silkscreen Printing with Drawing Fluid by drawing fluid and screen filler to create a reusable stencil on a silkscreen. Learn how to pull ink through the screen with a squeegee and print your design onto paper or fabric.
