Pottery can be tough on the body – joint pain, muscle aches, tension headaches, oh my! This course will teach you how to adapt your pottery practice to your unique body’s needs so you can keep potting for many years to come. With a focus on body mechanics, ergonomics, and modifications for physical disabilities or limitations, you will learn how to care for your body (a potter’s most important tool!) and utilize it to its maximum potential in the studio. Try a standing height wheel, working in front of a mirror, stack and slam wedging, gentle stretches and exercises, and more! It’s never too early to establish good habits and never too late to try new strategies to prevent pain, fatigue, and injury. Wheel throwers and handbuilders welcome. Some prior pottery experience is beneficial but not necessary.
