Chalk It Up - Pastel Painting/Drawing
In-Person: Adult | Available
Pastels are an adult way to play with chalk except we do not work on sidewalks. By play, it is meant that you learn techniques and experiment with those techniques. You will learn how to create form like a tree trunk using contrasting values. Another technique is creating different colors through the use of layering and a fixative. You will explore color by learning how to use a color wheel while creating a still life. You will come away with a stash of methods to create a compelling landscape or a cozy still life. This course is geared to the beginner through intermediate. The class will be divided into group work and individual work. You will work from photos and real still life objects.

EXTRAS
•You can use a strip of corrugated cardboard as a way to organize your sticks in a box.
• Make a chart with a few marks of each color and its name. As you run out, you can refer to the chart to buy the exact same color without any guesswork.
• If the sticks get coated with other colors, place the sticks in a container filled with either ground rice, semolina or cornmeal. Put the lid on and shake it gently. Sift out the material from the sticks and the sticks will be clean.
