Surface Decoration

This class will explore different types of surface decoration for you to use on your work! Expand your surface decoration beyond the dipping glazes! We will explore techniques using slips, underglazes, stamps, resists, and glaze options to create unique and dynamic surfaces of your work. Please come to class with some pieces that are in various stages of drying (ex: wet, leatherhard, greenware) as well as some bisqued work if possible. We will not be focusing on construction of work, as time in class will be geared towards learning the surface techniques, but students are welcome to create pieces on their own.

Megan Hinman
Megan Hinman (she/her/hers) is an experienced arts educator and ceramic artist. She holds a M.A.T. from Tufts University/School of the Museum of Fine Arts as well as a Graphic Design Certificate from Mass College of Art and Design. Prior to her time at ACA, Megan was a visual arts teacher at a local high school for 17 years, teaching a range of classes including ceramics, drawing and painting and graphic design. She combines her love of design and clay to create dynamic functional clay pieces using various surface decoration techniques. Megan especially loves altering wheel-thrown pieces by adding hand-built elements. Megan is excited to share her love of clay with her students and watch them discover their own creative potential with such an amazing medium.
