Working with Slabs
In-Person: Adult | Registration closed 9/16/2024
From structure to surface decoration, slabs are the perfect canvas to experiment and explore! We will be learning how to use soft and hard slabs to create inventive ceramic pieces. This class will cover both functional and sculptural techniques of building with slabs, as well as using hump/slump molds. Surface decoration techniques will include sgraffito, mishima, underglaze transfers, carving and stamping as well as glazing. This is the perfect class for those looking to explore the infinite possibilities off of the wheel! All levels are welcome.

Megan Hinman
Megan Hinman (she/her/hers) is an experienced arts educator and ceramic artist. She holds a M.A.T. from Tufts University/School of the Museum of Fine Arts as well as a Graphic Design Certificate from Mass College of Art and Design. Prior to her time at ACA, Megan was a visual arts teacher at a local high school for 17 years, teaching a range of classes including ceramics, drawing and painting and graphic design. She combines her love of design and clay to create dynamic functional clay pieces using various surface decoration techniques. Megan especially loves altering wheel-thrown pieces by adding hand-built elements. Megan is excited to share her love of clay with her students and watch them discover their own creative potential with such an amazing medium.
