Writing About Your Artwork: Artist Toolbox Series Fall 2022
2 Thursdays, October 6 & 13, 7:00 - 8:30 PM
Artists can be less than enthusiastic when writing about their work. It may seem irrelevant, or unnecessary. And, of course, it’s often something they’re not as comfortable with – “My work speaks for itself!”
In this workshop, we’ll first go over why an artist may need to write about their work, who the audience might be, and how developing your communication skills around non-literary media can help your practice. Grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure will be covered on the first day as well.
In the second session, artists will come to class with their own statements, bios, and websites. We will explore methods for effectively writing and editing these specific texts. By the end of the second session, you will have new tools, perspectives, confidence, and edited personal materials you can use in your artistic career.
