Shibori, the elegant origins of psychedelic tie-dye, is a Japanese resist dyeing technique that is simple enough to do in your backyard but vast with possibility. You will learn traditional techniques to bind, fold, twist and compress fabric before using indigo dye to achieve the distinctive geometric, organic look of Shibori. Students will make at least six pieces to take home, and are welcome to bring their own natural fiber garments/fabric to dye as well!

  • Materials Fee: $25 payable to instructor at the workshop for dyes, equipment and fabric.
  • Supply List:
  • Wear clothing and shoes that you do not mind getting dye on. The dye will not wash out.
  • Long Rubber gloves to project your hands.
  • If you plan to bring your own extra fabric or garments to dye...
  • ....natural fibers take dye the best, and pre-washing makes the dye take better!!
  • ....wash plant-based fibers with simple detergent (no fragrances or softeners) on the hottest temperature you can, extra rinse cycle
  • ...wash animal-based fibers gently with simple detergent, rinse well
  • Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions!
