Pastel is immediate and the colors are rich. Learn how to use pastels in a traditional way and in a more experimental approach. The class will work with oil and chalk pastels in a variety of subjects: landscape, portrait and a still life. Great medium to learn some color theory and also great medium to travel with. Some drawing experience requested.

  • Pastels:
  • · Small set of oil pastels—craypas are fine
  • · Small set of dry pastels—Nu pastels are fine

  • Paper:
  • · 16 x 20” drawing pad
  • · Grey pastel paper: Canson brand is preferred
  • · White paper for sketching
  • BFK Rives printmaking paper or smooth watercolor paper

  • Other supplies:
  • · Small set of inexpensive watercolors
  • · Drawing supplies – pencils, gum & kneaded eraser, soft charcoal, chamois, metal pallet knife
  • . Small bottle Acrylic Matt Medium and spray fixative
Pottle, Jill

Jill Pottle holds an MFA from the School at the Museum of Fine Arts in conjunction with Tufts University. She received her BFA in Painting from the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Syracuse University. During her undergraduate studies, Jill spent a year abroad at St. Martin’s College of Art in London. Jill works primarily in oils, dry and oil pastels to portray still lifes and landscapes in the style of expressionist realism.
