Color mixing and theory is knowledge that can be applied to all mediums of visual art. This shorter course is an intensive study of color, understanding it in the form of natural light, trichromacy, and pigments of paint. Color theories will also be examined (ie: Munsell, Photoshop RBG, printing CMYK, the Leonardo da Vinci described RYBG primaries, and the instructor's very own). Works of art are viewed such as those by Mark Rothko, Josef Albers; etc. But do not be frightened off, classes are designed for your personal pace and goals!

  • Bring paint of any medium. Required colors:
  • - Phthalo blue
  • - magenta
  • - lemon yellow
  • - white
  • - bring other paints you would like to use
  • - bring appropriate brushes and cleaning agent per medium (no solvents)
  • Bring surfaces on which to apply paint appropriate for your medium:
  • - canvas
  • - watercolor paper
  • - bristol board
  • Bring a simple image to replicate its colors.
  • (no chemical solvents, please)
Su, Lee

he/him/his Lee Su is a Chinese-American born in Vietnam and educated at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) in Providence, Rhode Island. Through RISD's European Honors Program, he also studied for a year in Rome, Italy. He now lives and creates art full-time near Boston, Massachusetts, where he had worked previously as an architectural designer. Lee's primary goal in teaching is to instill the "joy of making" because fulfillment gained from creating with one's hands leads to curiosity and the desire to employ one's mind.
