In this fun, approachable class, students will learn about the tools, preparations and materials of pointed pen calligraphy. Instruction will be focused on core pen-strokes, basic script letter-forms and flourishes that connect and decorate letters. Each student is enabled to develop their own modern calligraphy style and will complete the session with a couple of finished pieces to take home.

  • Materials fee payable to instructor at the first class: $20/student
  • Hello! I’m looking forward to our calligraphy workshop!
  • I will take care of sourcing materials like nibs, pen holders, and ink, as it can be hard to find the high quality materials that we will be working with in stores around here. Please bring $20 (check, cash, or venmo) to cover these materials.
  • I’ve put together a list of basics that you should bring with you to class.
  • Pencil. #2, HB or harder.
  • Pencil Sharpener. Handheld for control.
  • Ruler. Any will do, but a metal ruler with cork backing is very satisfying and useful!
  • 4. Water vessel. Give an old mug or jar a home in your calligraphy kit.
  • 5. Rag. Something tightly woven that won’t leave fibers in your nib, like an old linen tea cloth or t-shirt.
  • Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions!
