Pastel Drawing & More

Adult (Ages 16+) | This program is completed

Discover or re-discover the luminosity, richness and depth of pastels! Learn the basics of pastel drawing, such as color theory, layering, and texture. Materials and paper will be discussed as well. Learn how to create your own style through the use of more personal color choices, composition and subject matter, while working from still-life, flowers and nature, both from life and photographs.

  • Tuition includes model fees.
  • --basic soft pastel set (12 pieces or more; student grade is fine for this class)
  • --paper stumps such as:

  • --pastel paper pad with white and various other shades, at least 9"x12"

  • --you may buy pastel paper by sheet of white and other color(s) of your choice for example: http://www.dickblick.com/products/fabriano-tiziano-paper/ as they are larger, you will only need three or four sheets for the four classes, as we can cut them in half
  • --masking tape
  • --graphite pencil
  • --kneaded rubber eraser
  • --watercolor or other softer painting brushes
  • --water container
  • OPTIONAL:
  • -color and/or pastel pencils (a few colors or a basic set)
  • -watercolors
  • -drawing ink in black, or black sharpie, or another black ink pen
Shapiro Grenader, Luba
Luba Shapiro Grenader

Luba holds an MFA from Vermont College of Fine Arts and BFA from the Art Institute of Boston. Her primary work consists of mixed-media figurative drawings and small installations, incorporating various found fibers, papers and wood. In her work, she explores such themes as politics of motherhood, women and war, and currently, the gender and nationality-based oppression she experienced growing up under Soviet regime in Russia. Her work has been a part of various shows, locally and nationally. She has also been a part of the Mixed Media and Mothers/Artists Collectives.
