Opaque Watercolor - All Levels

8 Tuesdays, 1:00 - 3:30 pm

Come try using gouache paint, a versatile, non-toxic opaque watercolor, while creating representational paintings. Develop your observational skills and expressive techniques working with subject selection, composition, paint application and color mixing. Beginners to experienced painters welcome; some drawing experience helpful.

  • See suggested supplies list below. Material fee covers paint provided for use in class
  • BRUSHES
  • Watercolor brushes - rounds (Sizes: 2, 4 or 5, and 8 or 10)
  • PAPER
  • Watercolor paper - Individual sheets, a pad or block of 140 lb. or greater.
  • Size should be at least 11 x 15”, larger sheets can be cut into smaller
  • pieces. Watercolor paper is available in different surfaces: Rough, Cold Press, and Hot Press, in order of the roughest to the smoothest surface. The instructor prefers Cold Press.
  • MISCELLANEOUS SUPPLIES
  • A #2 pencil or B to 2B drawing pencil
  • An eraser
  • 2 containers for water (i.e. large yogurt containers, plastic tumblers, etc.)
  • Masking tape
  • Watercolor palette

Vicki Paret

Vicki is a painter and a potter with a M.A.T. from Tufts University/School of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, a B.F.A. from Virginia Commonwealth University, and ongoing education at the Harvard Ceramics Studio, Mudflat Pottery School, and Haystack Mountain School of Craft. She has been on the faculty at the Museum of Fine Arts, DeCordova Museum, and Cambridge Center for Adult Education, and until recently was Chair of the Art Department and teacher at Waring School in Beverly.
