Portraiture Workshop

Saturdays, 3/10 & 3/17, 1:00 - 4:00 pm
Become familiar with drawing the human face! Over two Saturdays, you'll build up the foundations of portraiture in this workshop using graphite and charcoal. Drawing from a model, you'll learn how to create a better likeness in your portraits with helpful tricks and tips along the way.
Some drawing experience helpful, beginners welcome.
- Tuition includes model fee.
- Drawing pad 11x14-18x24in (Strathmore 300 / 400 Series Drawing Pads are ideal)
- vine charcoal (soft-medium are the most workable) and/or graphite pencils (sets that have both hard and soft pencils are best)
- a kneaded eraser
- Additional materials like conte, toned paper, etc are fine if you want to give it a try!
Catherine Graffam
Catherine Graffam's work is almost entirely figurative with a continuing motif of portraiture. Catherine uses portraiture to better understand the people in her life, and by painting or drawing she is able to build upon and express relationships. She works in painting, drawing and printmaking.
An accomplished artist, Catherine's work is shown internationally and is in the permanent collections of the University of New Hampshire, the University of North Florida, the New Hampshire Institute of Art, and Philips Exeter Academy. She has written for The Huffington Post, The Independent and Big, Red & Shiny. Catherine holds a Bachelors of Fine Arts from the New Hampshire Institute of Art.
