Paint with Gouache

Paint using gouache - a versatile, non-toxic, opaque, water-based paint. It provides rich, flat color that can be used in a range of applications from thin and semi-transparent to many opaque layers. The process of painting and gouache techniques will be explored working from still life and photographs, starting with composing a painting with thumbnail sketches through developing a painting with layered paint.

- BRUSHES
- Watercolor brushes - rounds (Sizes: 2, 4 or 5, and 8 or 10), and a ¾” or
- 1” wash or mop brush.
- PAPER
- Watercolor paper - Individual sheets, a pad or block of 140 lb. or greater.
- Size should be at least 11 x 15”, larger sheets can be cut into smaller
- pieces. Watercolor paper is available in different surfaces: Rough, Cold Press, and Hot Press, in order of the roughest to the smoothest surface. The instructor prefers Cold Press.
- MISCELLANEOUS SUPPLIES
- A #2 pencil or B to 2B drawing pencil
- An eraser
- 2 containers for water (i.e. large yogurt containers, plastic tumblers, etc.)
- Masking tape

Vicki is a painter and a potter with a M.A.T. from Tufts University/School of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, a B.F.A. from Virginia Commonwealth University, and ongoing education at the Harvard Ceramics Studio, Mudflat Pottery School, and Haystack Mountain School of Craft. She has been on the faculty at the Museum of Fine Arts, DeCordova Museum, and Cambridge Center for Adult Education, and until recently was Chair of the Art Department and teacher at Waring School in Beverly.
