Figure Drawing

Adult (Ages 16+) | This program is completed

8 Thursdays, 9:30 am - 12:00 pm

By analyzing some of the most significant artwork in history, we can learn core principles and essential techniques of traditional representational drawing. In this class we seek to develop technical skills and gain artistic insights into ways of representing the figure, and come away with a fresh perspective for all of our artistic endeavors. A daily theme with specific drawing exercises gives students practical experience with fundamentals such as gesture, proportion, anatomy, perspective, and volume. Each session includes instructor demonstrations, one-on-one instruction and casual group critiques. Open to all levels of experience.

  • Drawing Tools:
  • Drawing pencils, soft grades (3B-9B) and kneaded eraser
  • and/or:
  • Vine charcoal, soft, and a piece of chamois for erasing
  • Paper:
  • Sketch pad 18” X 24” (preferably not newsprint) - Canson Biggie is a good one.
  • OPTIONAL FOR LATER IN THE TERM:
  • A few sheets of charcoal paper or other toned and/or textured paper such as watercolor paper, for longer poses and portraits.
