All Levels Watercolor Class

8 Wednesdays, 2:30-5:00 pm

This class is geared towards those with a basic knowledge of watercolor, as well as those who are more advanced. We begin with a review of the basics of wash, wet into wet, transparent layering, and color mixing. Students will then progress to work on subjects of their own choosing. Individualized instruction will allow each student to address his or her specific skill level, interests and style. At least one previous watercolor class is recommended.

  • If you already own watercolor supplies, there is no need to go out and buy these but if you need paint, or want to supplement what you already have the materials below are what I recommend. Regarding paints: If you are on a tight budget you need only purchase the paints with a *. Keep in mind that without the other colors you'll have limited color mixing capability but you can get by.
  • Paints: Artist grade Winsor Newton Watercolors: 5ml or 14 ml tubes
  • Cadmium yellow deep
  • Cadmium Yellow Pale*
  • Scarlet Lake*
  • Permanent Rose*
  • Perylene Maroon
  • Winsor Blue (green shade)
  • Winsor Green (blue shade)*
  • Cobalt Blue
  • French Ultramarine Blue*
  • Burnt Sienna*
  • Sepia*
  • Indigo
  • Brushes: Bring what you have. I recommend : #8 and #18 nylon watercolor brush with point
  • Paper: 3 sheets of Arches watercolor paper in 140lb cold press, 22"x30", with one sheet torn into halves or quarters for first class
  • Palette: White china plate or large rectangular palette, John Pike or equivalent
  • Other: absorbent paper towels, #4h pencil, mars white plastic eraser, 2 water containers

Marjorie Glick

Marjorie Glick (she/her/hers) is known for her large scale vivid realism watercolors that are inspired by New England’s places of antiquity and by the beauty found in nature. She has exhibited at several regional museums and galleries including the DeCordova Museum, Berkshire Art Museum, Brockton Art Museum, Beth Urdang Gallery, Boston, and the Forum Gallery in New York. Her work is in over 40 corporate and private collections including The Federal Reserve Bank, Fidelity Investments, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Tufts-New England Medical Center, all in Boston; Friends Hospital, in Philadelphia. She is the recipient of grants from the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation (Artist’s Resource Trust Grant) and the Massachusetts Cultural Council. She is represented by The Turtle Gallery in Deer Isle, Maine. She has served as Adjunct Faculty for The Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University and was a member of the faculty of the DeCordova Museum School, in Lincoln, MA from 1986-2012. She leads plein air workshops in Maine, France, and Tuscany. She holds a BFA from Massachusetts College of Art and has studied independently with Wolf Kahn and George Nick.
