Pet Portraits in Oil

Using either their own reference or reference provided by the instructor, students will explore oil painting through the art of pet portraiture. The first week of class will include an oil painting demonstration and reference gathering talk from instructor Tom Babbey, followed by four weeks of painting four different subjects (a piece per week). This class is perfect for both the oil painting novice band the experienced student, as a range of palettes (from monochrome , to Zorn, to warm/cool palettes) will be covered by the instructor and allowed.
Tom Babbey
Tom Babbey has studied at the Watts Atelier for over a decade, and has taught at the atelier for nearly as long. As an avid naturalist, Tom's love for wildlife led him to discover his passion for animal art and creature design at an early age. Tom currently works as a freelance illustrator and concept artist for clients such as Wizards of the Coast, Paizo Publishing, Wizkids, Cubicle 7, Fantasy Flight Games, Sony Online, and Griffin Road Games, and is the lead Art Director for Draco Studios “Dragonbond’ setting.
