Discover the art of transparent oil painting in this immersive class, where you’ll master the technique of creating luminous, finished artworks and versatile underpainting using oil paints. Emphasizing the delicate interplay of light and color, this course focuses on achieving depth and vibrancy through transparent oil techniques, perfect for both standalone masterpieces and foundational underpainting for more complex works.

Students will work from photographs to create three distinct subjects: portraits, animals, and landscapes. you’ll learn how to harness the translucency of oil paints to capture the subtle nuances of human expression, the dynamic textures of animal forms, and the atmospheric beauty of landscapes. The class will cover essential skills, including selecting and mixing transparent pigments, and using underpainting to establish structure and tone for further development. Whether you’ll aiming for a finished transparent painting or laying the groundwork for a multi-layered piece, this class will equip you with the tools to bring
your vision to life.

No prior oil painting experience is required, but a basic understanding of drawing is helpful. This is a great class if you are looking to transition from drawing into painting. Materials and reference photos will be discussed during the first session.
