Color Theory Essentials: Color Gamuts
Class | FULL
This course will focus on the development of an intuitive color sense. We will work on exploring color in what is called a gamut. A gamut is a group or selection of colors. In painting, the idea is that you select a specific gamut to limit your color choices and keep your painting within the color range that you have chosen.
This method can be used to simplify color choices in a painting and to help keep the painting within a certain mood.
We will be creating a color wheel as well as different gamut shapes to lay over the color wheel. We will explore the nature of color, color harmonies and perceptions, and the physical properties of the various oil paints and manufacturers. To apply these concepts in real painting scenarios we are going to work from reference. Students can choose their own, or teacher provided.
