Are you an aspiring illustrator, a professional artist looking to expand your skill base or improve your skills with traditional media, or an art hobbiest with a lot of imagination looking to take a step into the world of the fantastic? Come spend six days this January in intense study and camaraderie with established industry professionals Ryan Pancoast, Lucas Graciano and E. M. Gist. Immerse yourself in the world of illustration, and learn to make the images in your mind into a reality.

Each day of this six day workshop will run from 8am until 11pm (or later) and will include..
Daily lectures on storytelling, professionalism, career building, etc.
Daily demonstrations of painting from the model, idealization, creature design, etc.
1 on 1 instruction and assistance on your illustration from one of our award winning instructors.

When not working on your own illustration pull up a chair and watch one of the teachers work, and pick their brain with a round of “ask me anything”.

Gist, Erik

Erik M. Gist received his B.A. from SDSU in 1998. He began studying with Jeff Watts in 1996, three years later he began to teach and has done so ever since.. Erik has worked in the video game industry as a concept designer and 3-D artist and is now working as a freelance illustrator. Erik's clients include Marvel Comics, D.C. Comics, Dark Horse Comics, Disney, Audible, Wizards of the Coast, Upperdeck, Boom! Studios, Palladium Books, Blizzard Entertainment, Viking Childrens Books, Monkey Brain Books, Quart Publishing, and Chiat-Day. His work can be seen in Spectrum: the best in fantastic art including a nomination in 2018, and Aphrodesia: art of the female form 1 . Along with a Spectrum nomination, he has been nominated for an Illie Award, a Pulp Ark Award, a Chesley Award, and multiple Horror Comic Awards including one win. Graciano, Lucas

Lucas has been attending the Watts Atelier since 2001. He has worked in the video game industry working in Visual Development. Some of his game credits include: SOCOM 2 and 3, God of War, Alien Hominid, and Twisted Metal: HO. Lucas now freelances as an illustrator, some of his clients include: Sony Computer Entertainment, SOE, Wizards of the Coast, Reef, Upper Deck, Blizzard, White Wolf, and Quarto Publishing. His work can be seen in “Spectrum 15: The Best in Contemporary Fantastic Art”, “The Art of World of Warcraft TCG” as well as “Drawing and Painting the Undead”. Lucas was also a finalist in the 2008 Cover Competition for "American Artist Drawing" magazine. Pancoast, Ryan

Ryan Pancoast is an award-winning illustrator whose work has been honored by the Society of Illustrators, the Art Renewal Center International Salon, Spectrum: The Best in Contemporary Fantastic Art, and Infected by Art. He won Silver in the Oil/Acrylic/Watercolor category in Infected by Art Vol.7 and was nominated for a Chesley Award in 2017 and 2019. Ryan's work ranges from traditional illustration to high fantasy, although his primary focus is historical fantasy.
