What better way to appreciate Tucson than to document it on-site? We will work with both abstract and representational form to capture the nuances of light color, and shapes you observe at Tohono Chul Park and Barrio Viejo during classes one and three. We will work from references in the comfort of the classroom in classes two and four.

  • Some oil experience required. Drawing Fundamentals 1 or equivalent recommended.
  • Classes one and three meet on-site at Tohono Chul Park and Barrio Viejo.
  • Classes two and four meet at The Drawing Studio.
  • BRUSHES: Combine Flats, Rounds, + Filberts (#2, 4, 6) in Synthetic Sable + Bristle
  • *Small sable round [for blending] + small bristle filbert [for drawing] recommended
  • *Sable fan brushes (optional) for glazing
  • *Robert Simmons Signet bristles + Princeton Summit synthetic sable recommended
  • PALETTE KNIVES (2 or more, with angled neck from handle)
  • PAINTS (please bring at least 1 white, 1 yellow, 1 blue, 1 red, & 1 dark neutral):
  • Titanium White, Cadmium Lemon, Cadmium Yellow Medium, Cadmium Red Light, Alizarin Crimson, Viridian Green, Cobalt or Cerulean Blue, Ultramarine Blue, Burnt Sienna, Burnt Umber
  • OPTIONAL - Cadmium Orange, Pthalo Blue & Green, Sap Green, Yellow Ochre, Quinocridone Magenta, Dioxazine Purple, Cool Grey, Warm Grey
  • MEDIUM (optional): Liquin Fine Detail/Galkyd Lite & Walnut Oil/Refined Linseed Oil
  • (to make 3:3:4 alkyd:oil:solvent solution) – this will increase fluidity of the paint
  • SOLVENT: Gamsol
  • CANVASES:
  • 5x7”, 8x10”, 9x12”
  • Larger canvas to start a painting from reference (optional) – 16x20” recommended
  • Fredrix or Centurion brand recommended. Linen or cotton prepared with additional coats of gesso recommended.
