Learning to draw the figure can be a gateway to understanding better what it means to be human. Students will study anatomy, proportion, symmetry, value, gesture, mass and form, with ample opportunity to practice capturing the spirit that illuminates the form. Short poses will help students loosen up and gain confidence in their drawing capability, and long poses will help students learn how to develop a figure drawing with accuracy and energy.

  • Drawing Fundamentals 1 and Drawing Fundamentals 2 or equivalent required.
  • Tuition includes model fee.
  • Paper - Canson: 11x14 inches, 50 pound for now but when you do longer drawings switch to 70 to 100 pound paper.
  • Drawing Board - Size your board as close to 11x14 as possible. Sarnoff has Gatorfoam boards to fit this size. You will need 4 clips to hold paper to board.
  • Pencils - Round woodless pencils: 2B, get 2. These are the same size as wood pencils, but round and no wood. They usually break when dropped, so put a piece of masking tape along 2/3 of the length.
  • Erasers - Tough Stuff Eraser Stick is now being made by Factis. Artgum - 1x1x2 inches.
  • Pencil sharpener - Any of the small blade sharpeners that catch the cuttings and make a long bevel on the point is fine. For wood pencils I use the Dahle 155.
  • Book on perspective: PERSPECTIVE MADE EASY by Ernest R. Norling. Don't buy any substitute.
  • All these supplies are available at Sarnoff's - 2504 N Campbell Ave. Call to see if they have the Canson paper - 520.795.1229.
  • Bring a water bottle - the Junior League does NOT have a water fountain, so bring your own.
