If you are an admirer of Rubens or Vermeer, this class is for you! We will begin with a grisaille underpainting of a still life arrangement. Then, we will glaze transparent tones to make the painting pop!

  • Basic drawing and oil experience recommended.
  • BRUSHES: Combine Flats, Rounds, + Filberts (#2, 4, 6) in Synthetic Sable + Bristle
  • *Small sable round [for blending] + small bristle filbert [for drawing] recommended
  • *Robert Simmons Signet bristles + Princeton Summit synthetic sable recommended
  • *Sable fan brushes
  • (x2) PALETTE KNIVES, with angled neck from handle
  • PAINTS:
  • Indian Yellow, Perylene Red, Quinocridone Magneta & Red, Dioxazine Purple, Pthalo Blue, Manganese Blue, Pthalo Green, Zinc White
  • Griffin Alkyd Titanium White + Ivory Black for Grisaille underpainting
  • (optional): Ultramarine Blue, Viridian Green, Burnt Sienna
  • OPAQUE PAINTS (optional): Cadmium Lemon, Cadmium Yellow Medium, Cadmium Red Light, Cobalt/Cerulean Blue, Burnt Umber
  • MEDIUM (important!): Liquin Fine Detail and Walnut Oil / Refined Linseed Oil
  • SOLVENT: Gamsol

  • Fredrix or Centurion brand recommended. Linen or cotton prepared with additional coats of gesso recommended.
