Transparent, forgiving, and versatile, watercolors bring the page to life. Drawing on plants, animals, and landscapes for inspiration, we'll learn foundational techniques for watercolor painting. We'll practice color mixing, build hand dexterity, and discover textures made with sponges and salt.

  • •Winsor and Newton or Grumbacher Artist’s Grade Watercolors in:
  • •Alizarin Crimson
  • •Cadmium Red
  • •Ultramarine Blue
  • •Aureolin Yellow
  • •Yellow Ochre
  • •Burnt Umber
  • •Burnt Sienna
  • •Hooker’s Green
  • •Optional extra and sometimes useful colors:

  • •Round and flat watercolor brushes, Taklon or other soft-haired (no coarse brushes) in a variety of sizes from small to large
  • •Plastic paint palette with a center part for mixing
  • •pad of 140 lb. cold press watercolor paper (it will be textured)
  • •sketching pencils and eraser of your choice (I like kneaded because it doesn’t leave behind flakes)
  • •cup for water
  • •washcloth or rag
