Combine your love of drawing with principles of mixed-media layering! Students bring an object of interest to render and incorporate in a finished piece that includes charcoal, acrylic glazes, prismacolor pencils and acrylic paint. Explore composition and value, and build imagery through guided layers. Recommended: Drawing Fundamentals Level 1 or equivalent.

  • Please bring an object that has meaning or interest for you! This object will be part of the Still Life we will create.
  • A. Piece of paper 22” x 30” **
  • (NOTE: We will use part of this large sheet. A smaller piece is ok!)
  • B. Low-tack tape roll (Home Depot or Ace = Painter’s Tape)
  • C. Brushes for acrylic paint (Taklon bristle recommended)
  • • Small, medium & large will be used in class
  • D. Acrylic paints – Any brand is fine.
  • Colors below are suggested only. Bring at least primaries + white
  • Thalo blue * Cadmium Yellow Medium * Acra Violet or Magenta * White * Thalo Green * Yellow Ochre * Burnt Sienna * Dioxizine Purple
  • Any others you especially like working with.
  • E. Liquitex Matte Medium (Small size container is fine)
  • ** Paper choices:
  • Canson 140 lb. watercolor paper
  • Bristol board
  • Cold Press Watercolor paper
  • Lennox Machine Made paper (can be purchased at Posner’s Art Supply)
  • Any medium to heavy weight paper is fine. Please do not bring thin ‘Drawing paper’. It won’t hold up to our layers!
  • F. A pencil (HB or #2 is fine) and a kneaded eraser.
  • ~ I will bring things like water containers, paper towels etc.!
