Once you feel comfortable with basic drawing skills, it may be time to move into the fascinating realm of color. This class presents a step-by-step introduction to the effective use of color in oil and the understanding of a new medium.

  • 37 mL tubes of the following oil colors:
  • -Cadmium red light
  • -Alizarin crimson
  • -Ultramarine blue
  • -Phthalo blue or Prussian blue
  • -Yellow ochre
  • -Cadium yellow light
  • -Burnt umber
  • -Burnt sienna
  • 200 mL tube of titanium white
  • Odorless solvent, such as Turpenoid (Pour 2" into one of the glass jars below and bring to first class)
  • 12 or more canvases, either stretched or panels, minimum size 9x12". Bring one to first class
  • 9x12" White canvas pad
  • Small (approx. 1" long blade) painting knife with rounded (not pointed tip)
  • Palette knife, 3" blade
  • Filbert Bristle brushes: #2, #4, #6, #8
  • Small bottle of Liquin (or other brand) painting medium
  • Disposable paper palette pad 9x12" or larger
  • Misc. Supplies
  • -Roll of paper towels
  • -Roll of masking tap
  • -Small bottle of Murphy Oil (available at hardware or grocery stores in house cleaning supplies aisle)
  • -Box to carry supplies
  • -Soft clean rags (old t-shirts, etc)
  • -2 Glass jars with tight fitting lids, ideally with wide mouths (such as pickle, Mason or peanut butter jars)
  • -Plastic Grocery bags - bring 2 to first class
