Figure and Portrait Sculpture
Workshop | Available
This sculpture workshop is for anyone who may be “sculpture curious” as well as those with some experience that may be seeking a deeper understanding of sculptural practices and principles. Individual instruction is prioritized.
Working with the model we will begin with a two week pose to become comfortable with the material and learn to establish sculptural masses quickly. For the remaining six weeks students will have a choice; they may work on a full standing figure utilizing an armature or concentrate on a portrait bust. Pertinent and necessary principles and theories of anatomy, especially surface anatomy - the stuff that matters – will be introduced as it becomes relevant to your work and that will assist in building a properly proportioned and volumetrically accurate figure. Most of all, we’ll be playing with clay, getting our hands a little dirty and having a lot of fun!
Materials costs for this workshop will run between $80-120. Oil based clay will be available to purchase at class. An assortment of boxwood modeling tools, a wire loop tool or two and a soft fettling knife are recommended. Armatures will be provided by the instructor.
