This figure sculpture workshop is for beginners as well as those with some experience who may be seeking a deeper understanding of sculptural practices and principles. Individual instruction will be prioritized so those with any level of experience will be welcome. Painters in particular will benefit from working in the round, gaining a deeper understanding of the forms and volumes of the figure and how they turn from and enter into the picture plane.

Working with the model and beginning with a short pose to familiarize yourself with the materials, we will follow with a deeper dive: a longer pose, a standing figure utilizing an armature. Pertinent and necessary principles and theories of anatomy, especially surface anatomy - the stuff that matters - that will assist in building a properly proportioned and volumetrically accurate figure will be introduced. Most of all, we’ll be playing with clay, getting our hands a little dirty and having a lot of fun!
