In this workshop, students will learn the history of working in silverpoint and its usage in the Italian and Northern Renaissance. Through examination of Cennino Cennini’s book Il Libro dell’Arte (The Book of Art), we will learn the fundamentals and specificities of line drawing as they pertain to working in silverpoint. Students will also learn about the traditional method of silverpoint ground preparation on paper and compare it to contemporary silverpoint grounds and ready-made surfaces. Students will be drawing from a live model using the silverpoint preparations they have made.
