In this class we will pursue accuracy and efficiency in our figure painting while taking a closer look at the duotone, and its relationship to limited palette underpainting. This class is suitable for students of all skill levels and is designed to provide a working process that will enable and empower the students continued practice. We will begin with the gesture and develop a block in upon which we will build our duotone study. From the start we will use a procedure driven method that is fed by logic and strategy. We will also look at some of the historical context in the atelier and in the workshop, which surrounds the evolution of the duotone, to clarify its purpose and its potential.

In the end the student will learn some practical art history, deepen their understanding of the art of oil painting, and learn a method that will open doors for them at the easel.
