This class runs from 9 a.m.- noon.

Students study the gradual development of a head/figure drawing, overcoming fragmentary observation. Students study all the stages of a drawing process, executing quick-sketch heads/figures and longer studies.

Although the class is geared towards a portrait/figure drawing, the methodologies taught can be successfully utilized with any subject matter, style and medium.

The course begins with quick drawing exercises. The focus is on studying proportions, structure and planes in order to recognize and locate abstract shapes quickly and efficiently as students navigate the human head/figure.

The next set of exercises uses limited value range. Students study special relationships of lights and darks and mid values.

Students will learn to build the head/figure from simple to complex by studying big simple planes of the human form and how they help an artist to understand value changes. They will further explore smaller planes, turn the form and learn to recognize soft and hard edges and how to bring attention to the most important areas of the drawing.

Instructions are given at the students' easels and through demonstrations.
This class is designed for students of all levels of experience.
