This class introduces students to Studio Incamminati’s 23 color palette, for use in a series of painting exercises.

Utilizing colored light (“gels”) and bright, simple objects, students will explore the effects of intense light on the local color of still life, with an opportunity to compare how differing light arrangements fundamentally change the color relationships of objects (the “light key”). Class sessions will involve either the creation of one or two modest-sized oil studies, with dialog centering on seeing value vs. color saturation, as well as on paint handling.

The development of painting into clean, beautiful color notes for longer studies will also receive special attention. The use of both painting knives and brushes will be demonstrated and practiced.
