This workshop will cover the skills every artist needs in order to work up to their potential. It is aimed at artists who want to begin their journey with the foundational skills in place as well as mid-level to advanced painters who want to improve or refresh. The goal is for each artist to come away with understanding of the components in order to practice the exercises and develop each skill in the months following the workshop.

Workshop attendees will work with the figure, portrait and still life as dictated by the skill being studied. I will demo each skill to the class as well as spending time at each student’s easel giving personal instruction. This is a fast paced, information packed workshop. At the end of the workshop there will be an opportunity to block in the start of a painting using the skills taught in the first days. This start is the most important part of a painting, providing the foundation upon which paintings are built.

As long as the artist has the drive and dedication to learn, this should be a very useful and valuable workshop.

Thursday Jan. 23, 5 - 9 p.m., there will be a 4-hour demo of the opening stages of a full-color painting during which Lea describes how she makes use of each skill and answers questions.
