This workshop covers simplifying the head through large shadow and light shapes, studying color through simplified color masses and studying form, anatomy and facial structure through long pose.

The class will begin with demos in the mornings explaining the concepts for the day followed by studies of those concepts with critiques. The last four days will begin with demos in the morning followed by two daylong duotone portraits and finally one two-day portrait in full color.

One day of short studies
? Duotone and grisaille.
? You'll need one or two cheaper canvases.

Two one-day poses
? Demo in the morning showing the process of blocking in and refining the drawing and introducing color into the lights. This is the Duotone process.
? You'll need two inexpensive canvases.

Two day-long poses
? Demo in the mornings showing the process of blocking in a longer pose and moving through drawing, duotone and into full color.
? You'll need one good quality canvas, I'll be demoing on an acrylic primed linen.

Darren, a Studio Incamminati graduate and instructor, was a participating artist in the school’s Facebook Live online broadcasts. He has works in the collections of Lucasfilm Ltd., the film production company founded by Star Wars creator George Lucas, The Union League of Philadelphia as well as numerous private collections. His work has been included in many exhibitions including The National Arts Club; Florence Academy of Art U.S.; the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra gala and S. R. Brennen Fine Art and Manitou Galleries, Santa Fe. Darren also is an instructor in the school’s In Your Town outreach workshops.
