Group-based strength training delivered in real-time over Zoom is a feasible way of getting rural older adults to meet the national twice-weekly muscle strengthening guidelines. However, very little is known about how to keep rural older adults engaged in strength training once the initial research study ends.

Joey Saavedra, a Postdoctoral Fellow with UTMB's Texas Age Tech initiative is designing a pilot study to address this research gap. This session will provide an overview of Joey's preliminary study designs, providing audience members the chance to give feedback on how to improve the study's chances for success.

Additionally, participants will learn more about the value of strength training to health and longevity, and how technology can bridge rural-urban disparities in strength training participation.

  • This session will be filmed for UTMB's Postdoctoral program.
