Mary Moody Northen was the eldest daughter of Galveston business tycoon William Lewis Moody Jr. Upon his death in 1954, she became the head of the Moody family’s sprawling billion-dollar business enterprise. She eventually made her mark on local, state, and national history as one of the most influential women philanthropists of the 20th century. Rosenberg Library archivist Katelyn Landry-Carranza will discuss how Mrs. Northen’s position as a business executive and philanthropist starkly contrasted with traditional gender roles and expectations for women in business.
