Hawaiian Styles and Techniques Fun with the Ukulele

This challenging but rewarding, specialized course is for more experienced players and makes extensive use of tablature and some music reading. We will explore Hawaiian strumming, finger picking, chording styles and techniques, slack key tunings, beginning slide techniques, and chord melody playing. We will also learn Hawaiian pronunciation and sing several songs in Hawaiian. Handouts will be provided all for skills and songs. Instructor will also discuss buying a slide. Songs include “Hawai’i Pono,” “My Honolulu Hula Girl,” “Ku’uipo,” “Hawai’i Aloha,” “Sweet Leilani,” “There’s No Place Like Hawaii,” “Live Aloha,” “Lava,” and others. Students may check with instructor if unsure about their entry skills for this course. Acceptance upon instructor’s discretion. (Limit 16)
