Why Aren’t We Living Longer? The Medicine Paradox
Life expectancy among Americans has not appreciably increased in over a decade. Yet, at the same time medical treatments for a wide range of diseases have become more and more effective. This session will discuss reasons for this seeming paradox highlighting both progress and stalls in combatting major diseases associated with getting older. We will draw lessons from epidemiology, health policy, and clinical medicine. The session will be interactive and class participation will be encouraged throughout.
