This class explores the theory behind notes, chords, rhythms, music notation, keys, scales, chord progressions, and other aspects of why music sounds the way it does on the ukulele. We will use the book Ukulele Theory Workbook by Burgess Speed (2021, Hal Leonard

Publishers, available on-line). The book features exercises and audio tracks designed to reinforce each musical concept. This is an expanded version of the 4-week course offered in Summer 2024. With extra sessions, we will have time for more in-class creative exploration of the concepts. Come learn what’s “under the hood” of the music we know and love for the ukulele!
