Class | Registration opens 12/8/2025 9:00 AM CST
Discover the hidden treasures along the shoreline in this indoor class about shelling on our island. Participants will learn to identify the most common shells found by me on our beaches, including lightning whelks, sand dollars, and angel wings. We’ll explore optimal shelling locations, best times to hunt based on tides and wind patterns, and the fascinating natural history behind these marine gems. We’ll also delve into the folklore and cultural stories surrounding these coastal treasures. Whether you’re a casual beachcomber or aspiring conchologist, you’ll leave this class with the knowledge to enhance your shelling adventures while respecting our coastal ecosystem. At the end of class, you’ll have the opportunity to see and handle shells from my personal collection gathered over many years of local beach combing. Time permitting, we’ll help identify some of your unique finds and favorite shelling locations.
