This presentation will cover Napoleon’s escape from forced exile in Elba, his restoration as Emperor of France and his march north to confront the British and Prussian armies trying to contain him. The French victory over the Prussians at Lignby, and the subsequent northward withdrawal of British forces from Quatre Bras to Waterloo will be Summarized. The epic battle at Waterloo will then be presented, including Napoleon’s near victory over the beleaguered British, and the late intervention by the Prussian army from the east to save the day. Finally, Napoleon’s hasty retreat to Paris, his final surrender to the British and his subsequent exile at St. Helena will also be covered.
