In this presentation, participants will hear general information about the structure of the Galveston County Justice System, including the functions of the various offices that work with the courts that are located at the Justice Center. They will see how case records bring the past to life. Participants will view original court records which reflect significant historical time periods. They will see case records from the time period of the Republic of Texas, the Civil War, and the 1900 Storm. Attendees will be encouraged to consider that history does not just appear in classrooms and textbooks. In addition, participants will learn about ever-present and ever-evolving jury and court scams. They will learn how these scams work, and what to keep an eye out for, so that they can protect themselves and their loved ones against these scammers.
