Monkey Fist Knots
Class | Available (Membership Required)
Galveston has a rich and storied maritime history. The existence of our city from the beginning has been as a natural port. One of the tools used by mariners to pass mooring lines from ships to smaller boats and docks is the Monkey Fist.
The Monkey Fist is tied to a small heaving line. This tool has been used in one form or another for hundreds of years and is still in use today. The monkey fist is then thrown to a person on the dock. The heaving line is tied to a larger line, a messenger. The messenger is tied to the mooring line. In this class, you will tie the monkey fist knot using a template as a learning tool, which is yours to keep. These knots can be decorations, key fobs or door stops. They can be tied in any size depending on thewraps and size of the line. (Limit 20)
