Oyster Gardening 101

Seminar | Available (Membership Required)

Join us to learn about the Galveston Bay Foundation’s innovative oyster gardening program! This community-based initiative enables Galveston County waterfront property owners to grow baby oysters (known as “spat”) from their docks. During this class, discover the ecological importance of oysters, learn about growing techniques, and understand how your efforts directly contribute to vital restoration projects throughout Galveston Bay.

Become part of a growing network of citizen scientists that in 2024 recruited (grew) 5,070 oysters that were used to help rebuild a reef in Galveston and improve water quality in our treasured coastal ecosystem. Maureen is planning to bring a live oyster garden to class so you can see her baby oysters growing. (Limit 35)
