Cephalopods--Mollusks with High Performance and a Complex Lifestyle

Seminar | Available (Membership Required)

Cephalopods are the most highly evolved invertebrates. You certainly know of the giant squid and have heard some amazing stories about the “intelligence” of an octopus.  What are anecdotes and what is true?  Ulli Budelmann has worked with these animals for almost 50 years.  Come and listen to his stories of this fascinating group of cephalopods (octopus, cuttlefish and squid). Learn what actually makes them so fascinating to amateurs and scientists alike, and learn about their amazing body organization, their highly evolved brains, nervous systems, and sense organs. Believe it or not, some of those systems rival their vertebrate, including human, counterparts in sophistication. Not surprisingly, then, cephalopods are “high performing” and have a complex lifestyle that is very different from their close relatives, which are mussels, oysters and snails. At the end of the seminar, you will be as fascinated about these animals as Ulli is for 60 years. (Limit 35)
