Architectural Salvage and Restoration

Seminar | Available (Membership Required)

Nick Barbee has worked for GHF for the last 10 years and manages the Architectural Salvage Warehouse (ASW) for the Galveston Historical Foundation. ASW salvages historic building material which is sold to public working on historic homes.  There are a number of benefits to using historic materials and techniques for rehabbing and preparing them. Nick will share best practice for saving and protecting common materials like flooring, windows, cast iron, and other building materials. Nick will also share the process of moving and restoring historic homes, highlighting GHF’s two most recent Revolving Fund Projects, 1414 Ave L and 7119 Broadway. The Revolving Fund has been in operation for over 50 years and has protected homes on the Island that would otherwise have been demolished. (Limit 35)
